Craft Party - Meet Our Sponsors: Bazaar Bizarre & CCE

One of the great things about working with I Heart Art: San Francisco is all the connections that we're making in the Bay Area's creative community. And what's even better is when people from within that community decide that they'd like to become more involved with helping us out!

And we could always use a little help from our friends!

In conjunction with our Craft Party that we're throwing on Friday, June 10th, we'd like you to get to know some of the folks that will be sponsoring various activities! To help us all get our craft on, here's a little more about Bazaar Bizarre San Francisco!

Bazaar Bizarre San Francisco
One of the premiere craft presences
in the Bay Area
Bazaar Bizarre began in 2001 in the Boston-area as an offbeat entertainment extravaganza to showcase the DIY movement and handmade goods. Bazaar Bizarre has spread across the nation to cities such as Los Angeles, Cleveland, Maker Faire Bay Area and Austin. Bazaar Bizarre San Francisco is a Handmade market, Indie entertainment extravaganza and D.I.Y. Festival all under one roof!

In addition to throwing some of the best craft events in San Francisco, Bazaar Bizarre SF hosts a blog with listings for shows all over the SF Bay Area, crafty business advice and information about our upcoming shows. You can read about them here!

If you're interested in participating or shopping at future events see our upcoming shows!

Nightlife at The Academy July 14th

JPOP Summit August 27th and 28th

Bazaar Bizarre Holiday Show December 3rd & 4th

And from the local geniuses that brought you Bazaar Bizarre San Francisco, we have the Conference of Creative Entrepreneurs!

Learn how to turn your passion into your living at the second annual Conference of Creative Entrepreneurs!  This year’s event will take place August 5th-7th 2011 in beautiful San Francisco.

We’ll be meeting at one of the city’s most inspiring spaces: the San Francisco Women’s Building, situated right in the heart of the bustling Mission District.

CCE is offering three days of learning with some of today’s most successful creative entrepreneurs, so whether you’re trying to start, grow, or manage a creative business, you’ll always find a session that’s right for you. CCE is appropriate for all current or aspiring creative professionals, including fine artists, designers, illustrators, crafters, food artists, and more. They're proud to say that 100% of last year’s surveyed attendees said they would recommend CCE to a friend, so make sure to secure your spot early for this year’s conference.

Representatives from both Bazaar Bizarre SF and CCE will be joining us on Friday for CRAFT PARTY! They'll be leading two Craft Tables with fun activities:

Craft Party at TechShop

If you live in the Bay Area & you like to make stuff  with your hands then you should really know about TechShop. There are 3 Bay Area locations and several in other parts of the country.
Now, I can hear you asking yourself... "What in the heck IS TechShop?" Dont' worry, I was asking the very same question too. After visiting their gorgeous San Francisco location I can tell you that it is mecca for folks who like to make things... all kinds of things, pretty much anything. But if that still doesn't clear it up for you, then perhaps the following info from their site will shed a brighter light on things:
"TechShop is designed for everyone, regardless of their skill level.
TechShop is perfect for inventors, makers, hackers, tinkerers, artists, roboteers, families, entrepreneurs, youth groups, FIRST robotic teams, arts and crafts enthusiasts, and anyone else who wants to be able to make things that they dream up but don't have the tools, space or skills.
TechShop provides you with access to a wide variety of machinery and tools including milling machines and lathes, welding stations and a CNC plasma cutter, sheet metal working equipment, drill presses and band saws, industrial sewing machines, hand tools, plastic and wood working equipment including a 4' x 8' ShopBot CNC router, electronics design and fabrication facilities, Epilog laser cutters, tubing and metal bending machines, a Dimension SST 3-D printer, electrical supplies and tools, and pretty much everything you'd ever need to make just about anything."
And speaking of making things...

We are Ecstatic to announce that this years Craft Party will be taking place at TechShop San Francisco. This Craft Party isn't your typical Stitch n' Bitch, we are expecting 150 -250 crafters from all over the Bay Area. And it just wouldn't be a party without YOU!

If you haven't been to a TechShop location, you really need to see it to believe all the awesome that it is. Craft Party is an incredible opportunity to come down and spend some
quality time at one.

June 10th from 5- 9 PM

We are still looking for a few volunteers to help us with set up & take down on the day of the event. Please email Jen, our Communications Coordinator to volunteer for this exciting event!

Craft Party -- The I Heart Art: SF Official Kickoff -- Coming Soon!

Hey there, Crafty Peeps!

It’s TWO WEEKS until CRAFT PARTY – have you RSVP’d yet?

You didn’t even KNOW about CRAFT PARTY? Well, you’re invited, and trust me, you want to be there!

WHAT? Craft Party is Etsy’s annual worldwide shindig in celebration of all things crafty and creative. This year, Craft Party in our neck of the woods is going to be an awesome SF Etsy event and also the kick-off for I Heart Art: San Francisco! We’ll have craft workshops with Go-Go Craft! Refreshments! BYOK or C (that’s Bring Your Own Knitting or Crochet) for a stitch & bitch circle! And MORE!

WHEN? June 10th in the evening (5 or 6 pm to 9 or 10 pm, TBD)

WHERE? Well, we’ve been holding off on making a huge deal about it because we’ve been wanting to finalize the venue before going to y’all with The Big Announcement. We are now this close to settling things (making our last decision between two very good venues and lining up details like the exact time before we finalize) but rest assured that for either venue, it will be a good spot in SOMA close to BART in San Francisco, with lots of room to get down with our crafty selves! We will let you know where for sure as soon as we’ve decided.

But wherever, it will be great. We would LOVE to see you there!

We would also LOVE to line up volunteers to be sure this event is every bit as awesome as it could be.

We’re looking for folks to help with:

Set up (an hour or so before the party, so 4 or 5 pm start)

Bake sale to support Kelly Malone of Workshop SF – this local crafting legend is battling cancer, and we’ll be doing some fundraising to help with her medical costs. We need folks for doing the actual baking to donate, someone to organize the donations/volunteers, and staff for the bake sale table

Refreshments – we have some budget for this and would also be interested in having people solicit donated refreshments. We’ll share details with the volunteers!

Decorating – we have some awesome ideas (ruffled paper streamers tutorial, anyone?) and welcome others!

Welcome -- we need door greeters for hour shifts, or half hour if there’s enough interest

Crowd control -- helping with movement btw craft stations

Craft station assistants, including stitch & bitch circle facilitator

Clean up (9 or 10 pm start until done, probably an hour)

It’s gonna be a great party, but we can’t do it without YOU!

Don’t forget to RSVP.

Wanna see something fun? Check out Etsy’s charming CRAFT PARTY video!

And please let me know if you’d like to volunteer to help out with this event! You can email me or convo me through my Etsy shop. Be sure to let me know what you want to do!

Hope to see ya there!

Exciting event happening in a town near you - SAN FRANCISCO!

Ever feel like you'd like to craft with more company than your cat? I know I do! Well, try 15,000 more people! Julie from Etsy says:
"Last year, over 5,000 people participated in over 500 meetups from Dallas to Romania, and this year our goal is for over 15,000 people to share in the spirit of Craft Party. Since we can't do this without you, we're calling on your help to mobilize in your local community."
Come and join Etsy in their 2011 version of Craft Party - and make it extra special because it's the I Heart Art: San Francisco KICK-OFF EVENT!

You heard right! We here at I Heart Art: San Francisco have been in cahoots with Vanessa at Etsy for a while now, talking about what a wonderful opportunity this is to get the Bay Area together for some good ol' crafty fun.

While right now Tammy & I are working on scouting an event big enough for our Craft Party, we'd love to extend an invitation to ALL of the SF Etsy Team & their friends to sign up to come & craft with us on June 10th!
